Obama wins!!

Who would have thought that we could have ever elected a black president. However, Barack is not only a black president, he is a president for all of America. Starting in 2004 he called for a United States of America, not a divided America. It is my sincere hope that all of those McCain supporters can put aside their feelings and rally behind this man.

Our position in the world will be strengthened, no longer can citizens around the world look at us as a backwards racist country, who has no wish to engage with the world. There is no question that the work to be done is hard, and that there will be no immediate fix to all of the worlds problems, but with a man like Obama, and a united country behind him there is no doubt that today is the start of a new day in America.

New Sevendust Album

holding

So the new Sevendust album dropped a little bit ago, and I love it. It's a change for the band, with a lot more ballads on the album. Also, they had a few guests on the album, including Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy of Alterbridge. You can definitely tell the difference with the exit of Sonny Mayo, but they still hold the tight rhythm section and riffs that have made the band so successful in the past. If you are a fan of the classic Sevendust stuff, and are open to some of the softer songs, you will love the album as well.

So Why is WLTV so Great

Well, if you haven't seen Wine Library TV yet you should go check it out.  The question I am interested in is why has it caught on with the college crowd (CKC's if your a fan).  I introduced my friends to the show, and now we all watch and drink wine almost as often as we drink beer.  What is too account for this phenomenon?

The answer, as I see it, is that Gary has combined things that college kids like, namely alcohol, high energy TV, sports, and alcohol.  The problem with wine (beyond the boxed kind) for the people in the college age range was that it seemed more expensive, and very much a drink for an older generation and stuck up rich people.  Gary has shown that this does not need to be the case.  By showing that there were quality wines for lower prices, and explaining them in very simple and open terms, wine became accessible to a younger crowd.

Much of this comes down to Gary's open and energetic personality.  His being the face of a new wine drinking generation moved the stereotype of a wine drinker from an uptight French guy, to a guy from Jersey you could find at a Jets game (or a Michigan game).  Shifting that generational stereotype made it more acceptable for a guy to pull out a bottle of wine with his friends and not be ridiculed.

However, even though this shift has occurred, I don't think there will be a mass of students at the bar drinking a glass of wine.  I am not sure that that will ever happen, until you can buy a keg of wine there won't be wine at a Frat party.  But, because people are slowing getting the message that wine is just as viable as the classic brew Gary is changing the wine world.

Almost Finished

It's weird being almost done with school.  This will be the first time since kindergarten that I won't be going to classes come September.  It will be nice to have a break from school before law school, but I'm not sure what I'll do with myself.  Work is a definite, but that's probably only part-time.  After I take the LSAT there is definitely no more stressful activities for a whole year.  Well, I guess it'll be a lot of hanging out and what not.  Hopefully I can find a day job that will not conflict with my night one, but hey I'll take what I can get.

Looking back at my 4 years at Michigan I can not be more happy with how I spent them.  I had an amazing time with great friends and got to experience a semester in England and travel Europe.  The only thing that could have made it a better time is a win or two against Ohio State.  Losing to the Buckeyes 4 years in a row, coupled with being here for the first loss of the Jug in 16 years, and one of the most major upsets in football history taking place my senior year definitely soured the experience.  But hey, pre-games were amazing and 4 years of beating the Spartans made it a little better.  If we can pull out a hockey national championship there will be something to hang our collective '08 hat on.

Time to move on, but only down the street (at least for a year), and have one hell of a time with no educational requirements to burden me.

Coach Rod

Good stuff, I like the hire.  He is going to bring in speed and maybe the Michigan offense can score some points and the defense can learn to defend the spread.  What people don't seem to realize is that he can run the spread with Mallet at QB and just spread the ball around, especially with Sam Mcguffie coming in at HB.  It'll take a few years to get a real speed option type of system in place but it should be good fun.  Of course they make this hire when I'm leaving the University but hey, at least I can see it on TV (except for those damn Big Ten Network games).
